One day a few weeks back I was surfing through websites and stumbled upon this jewel; www.shorpy.com . Shorpy - History in HD is a vintage photography blog featuring thousands of high-definition images from the 1850s to 1950s. The site is named after Shorpy Higginbotham a teenage coal miner who lived 100 years ago. Here a lot of random and sweet photographs of the good old days.

Black Hawk Down

Last night I watched the movie Black Hawk Down for the first time. Black Hawk Down is an action/war drama based on the best-selling book detailing a near-disastrous mission in Somalia on October 3, 1993 where nearly 100 U.S. Army Rangers, commanded by Capt. Mike Steele, were dropped by helicopter deep into the capital city of Mogadishu to capture two top lieutenants of a Somali warlord which lead to a large and drawn-out firefight between the Rangers and hundreds of Somali gunmen which led to the destruction of two U.S. Black Hawk helicopters in Mogadishu, and the heroic efforts by various Rangers to get to them, centering on Sgt. Eversmann, commanding one Ranger unit named Chalk Four, leading Rangers to the first black hawk crash site, to Warrant Officer Durant who was only survivor of the second black hawk crash site and whom was captured, to Col. McKnight who leads a rescue convoy for the Rangers only to get lost within the hostile city, to Sgt. Sanderson desperately trying to get to the first crash site, to Staff Sgt. Yurek who leads two fellow Rangers, Nelson and Twombly to meet with up their squad, Chalk Four, at the first crash site, to many others involved who where either killed or survived. It was non-stop action and pretty graphic; to say the least.

Ben Folds in concert

This weekend I bought tickets to see Ben Folds. His concert is on October 17th at the Myth Nightclub in Minneapolis. Way to Normal is the title of his new studio album. Although Folds originally said in an interview with Paste magazine that the album would be released on 16 September 2008, it is now set for release on 30 September 2008 in the United States and on 29 September 2008 in the United Kingdom. Europe always gets stuff first.

It's pretty strange

Atonement

Last night I watched the movie Atonement. The plot centers around a mischievous girl who accuses her older sister's lover of a crime he did not commit, only to find that her words have irrevocably and permanently changed the lives of all involved in a film that re-teams the filmmakers behind Pride & Prejudice to adapt the best-selling 2002 novel by author Ian McEwan. The year is 1935, and as the summer heat takes hold, 13-year-old fledgling writer Briony Tallis watches her older sister, Cecilia (Keira Knightley), get undressed and go frolicking in the garden fountain on her family's country estate. The housekeeper's son, Robbie (James McAvoy), a childhood friend and recent Cambridge graduate, also witnesses the innocent act. When Robbie and Cecilia subsequently cross a particularly sensitive boundary and the scheming Briony accuses Robbie of an unspeakable transgression for which the boy is wholly innocent, the repercussions of her unfounded claim threaten to affect all three for decades to come. The movie had an outstanding score and amazing cinematography.

MMMmmmm Breakfast!

Eating a good breakfast is important to me. A nice filling meal gives me energy and starts my day off right. This morning I started off with a banana; that's not to ripe. Next a nice bowl of vanilla yogurt with granola. Granola is really good with yogurt. Next I had some poached eggs and washed it all down with a nice tall glass of orange juice. I got my protein, potassium, calcium, and it all tastes so good.

New Beginnings

First Blog ever. If it wasn't for this class, Multimedia Processes I, I was hoping to live my life and avoid blogs entirely. The idea of writing in a journal has never appealed to me; let alone posting it for the world to see. And on second thought who in the world would want to read about what someone ate for breakfast, how work was, or what Turner Classic movie they are watching on TNT. If you ask me, bloggers must think they live the most interesting lives ever.
